System of a Down (SOAD) is an American alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1992 by Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian under the name Soil, taking its current name in 1995. From 1998 to 2005 the band released five studio albums, each platinum-certified, with Toxicity the most successful, and sold more than 12 million copies overall.
