Rainbow is a British-American band formed in 1975 by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore with members of Elf led by Ronnie James Dio. AllMusic described the group's work as a major milestone in hard rock and heavy metal; by 1983 Rainbow had released eight albums, each with a different lineup, as Blackmore repeatedly reshaped the band.
