Awesome 98 (KKCL-FM 98.1) is a classic hits radio station serving Lubbock, Texas, and licensed in nearby Lorenzo, Texas. The station first went on the air in 1984 and is currently owned by Townsquare Media. Awesome 98 is known for playing popular hits from the 1970s, 1980s, and selected songs from the 1990s, featuring artists such as Queen, Michael Jackson, Prince, and Fleetwood Mac. In 2015, the station adopted the "Awesome 98!" branding and shifted its focus toward classic hits. Its studios and transmitter are located in south Lubbock. Today, it is promoted as "Lubbock's Greatest Hits" and remains one of the area's most popular nostalgia-based music stations.
